My Idols

I promise I'm not going to talk about American Idol, although this post does deal with television. It is one of my favorite channels to watch, any time of the day (regardless of the consequences). I would love to make you guess what I'm talking about, but that's just too much work and I've been lazy all day so let's keep that going, shall we?

I of course am speaking of, the one, the only, Food Network. It is one of the best channels on TV, like, ever. And the hosts/chefs of the numerous shows on said channel are and forever will be my idols (hence the post title). I could go one of a couple ways here - I could rave about all the shows on FN currently, I could complain that there aren't as many good shows, or I could just sum some shit up. Therefore I have a select few topics I want to hit good and hard with this post - Old ICA vs New ICA, past favorite shows, and current favorite shows.
And I know my posts have seemed to go on for days in the past, so I'll do my best to make this a concise one :)

I know I mentioned old vs new ICA, but I'm gonna save that for last. I will instead start with some of the old (no longer showing, as in moved to The Food Channel - or at least not on during waking hours) shows I absolutely loved.
Ace of Cakes - DUFF GOLDMAN. Nuff said am I right, or am I right?! This guy is just the epitome of rockingness (it may not be in the dictionary, but I promise it's a real word). They made some pretty kick ask cakes and Duff is just a funny dude. Cake plus funny plus cool design equals one great TV show I tell you.
Good Eats - Alton Brown! Love that guy! Good Eats combined food (always amazing) with nerdy facts and overall just cool info about the good eats he was speaking of on any given day. Molasses, leeks, etcetera. Just some good times.
Everyday Italian - I always say I think I was supposed to be born Italian or live in Italy. I'd take either :P but Giada D'Laurentis made the show great cause she actually is Italian and she would speak Italian a little bit and that's how I learned to pronounce quite a few of the awesome pasta names/dishes. I miss that show.
Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee - this show gave you the excuse to not make everything homemade! Who wouldn't want to be able to get away with using store bought crap and calling it your own?! I was very angry when it stopped showing on The Food Network (I'm not sure if it's on The Food Channel or not).

Great shows currently on FN that I love include but are not limited to:
Chopped - Ted Allen is the bomb (he's no Alton Brown, but he's right up there). I just really enjoy the concept. I also like all the spin offs they do with it. Sometimes that doesn't work well for shows, but it certainly does with Chopped.
Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives - Triple D all the way baby! Guy is such a cool dude! And he doesn't hate on MN like most other road trip type shows do! He's just good peoples.
Cupcake Wars - Cupcakes. End of story.
The Best Thing I Ever Ate/Made - Really cool that you can see what and where chefs eat (so you can eat there too!) or that they show you how to cook actual dishes they actually make!

OLD vs NEW ICA (Iron Chef America)
I could complain for a very long time about the differences and why I prefer a certain one, but I'd like to hear your thoughts!

Final comments...I did NOT forget about 30 Minute Meals, I just wasn't sure where to place it. I don't see it very often, but I know that it still airs regularly on FN. Just thought I'd clear that up for The Cooler Jacobs.

Love ya'll crazy readers and have a good night!!! :)

Are You Gonna Keep That?

Okay, one brief comment about my ineptitude...I suck. All right, now that's out of the way, we can focus on business here. Yes, I did mean to say "keep" and not "eat." Which brings me to our next completely random topic, hoarding!

I wish I could say everyone has at least a tiny little hoarder inside them, but I know that's complete malarkey. I know people who want to throw everything they don't need, and then I know people who nearly refuse to get rid of anything. I'm probably somewhere in the middle of that hot mess.
I like to keep things because of the memories attached to them (I wore this bracelet to my very first concert or "so and so" loved it when I wore those pants), but then again I know when I really need to get rid of some shit. I just went through my whole wardrobe and essentially eliminated 2/3 of it! A hoarding miracle (and like $50 in garage sale money)!

Do you have some problems throwing things away? Do you have some problems with putting change into your life? If so, you may secretly be a hoarder. I'll just leave that little mind bomb sit there for a minute. Psst! Let me know if it detonates.

If you're already an admitted hoarder of sorts, do tell me what you keep. My problem is usually clothes, jewelry, shoes, and accessories in general.

Now, if you consider yourself a "collector," you're probably just sugarcoating. "I collect" is a very subliminal way of saying "I keep, like, everything." I'll admit it, I have started a few "collections" in my time. I once said I was collecting bracelets - so I didn't have to get rid of my baby bangles. I now have started a bottle cap collection. Not large at this point, but no one gives me their caps! I have found some really cool, old ones though, so I'm in too deep to stop. I've gotten attached.
AND THAT MY FRIENDS, IS HOW ONE BECOMES AN EXTREME HOARDER THAT ENDS UP ON TV.

Like I was saying, if you have some problems letting stuff go, this is a safe place. Tell me what you keep and I will keep it secret ;)

Let the Self Inflicted Torture.... Begin!

As any and all women should know, bikini season will soon arrive. It's nearly here already! And if that is a fact, then so is this: people are freaking out trying to get in shape and FIT in those itty bitty thingys.

So that is what this post will focus on. Exercise. Torture. They should change the dictionary  definition of masochism to "willing to exercise."

As I'm sure anyone could assume (thereby making an ass out of us all!) that I am not a fan of exercise. Yeah I like the end result, but we all do. We all want flat stomachs and toned arms, legs, back, and bootay. It's just that most of us don't want to work for them - like me. :)

I can make excuses. "I can't do push-ups because I have a bad back." "I don't want my boobs to shrink." "I'm afraid to run because I might puke." We can all make excuses. Most of them are actually true, but no one else cares about your problems. Scratch that. No one else cares about your mental problems - EVERYONE cares about your physical problems a.k.a. your FAT ASS.

Okay, okay. I guess I should actually talk about the process of exercising. I hear that you should start with stretching (checkmate! I was a dancer bitches). Then go into warm up (easy cardio) then ramp up that cardio and feel the burn for like 15 minutes. Then either go into cool down/stretching or into other workouts.
I have rarely forced myself to work out on my own. Mainly I was forced to do such painful things by others (coaches and gym teachers). They always had a plan of what to do to focus on certain areas. I should have paid attention. Cause I can't even tell you the legit difference between sit ups and crunches. I occasionally do them when my tummy starts to get a little too round...

Arms - push ups, pull ups, barbells, etc
Legs - squats, lunges, leg machine at all gyms (combines as an ab torturer), etc.
Ass - squats, lunges, etc.

And yeah! Like I said, not huge on willingly exercising, but some freaks are. Still, I'll probably have to do something before I put myself in a two piece!

Comment with funny workout stories, your own favorites, or just hate toward exercising in general (feel free to use your explicit vocabulary ;D)

Let it Snow and the Sun Will Come out (literally) TOMORROW!

So. Midwest. May 2nd snowstorm. May goddamn 2nd! I was ready for the snow to be gone in January. And then we get this massive storm in May. WTF.
On the plus side...the sun came out literally the NEXT day and it was half melted by Cinco de Mayo.

Just thought I'd cover that little funky situation. Not much else to say about it. It's just been some crazy weather this month in the Midwest. It was in the 90s yesterday believe it or not. And it was that heavy heat. You know what I'm talking about. Not the best part about summer. Dry heat with a slight breeze. That is the shiznit right there.

Like I said, I just wanted to mention the odd happenings here in Mini-so-ta.

A True Woman's Dream and Nightmare

Well shit. It seems we have a problem here. Either I post once and am excessively delinquent in posting again or I post once and attack my blog three days later with another post. Perhaps I'm just trying to make up for my large lack of self discipline for the past two months. Perhaps I just have time on my hands and this seems like some productive use of my time.

Oh who am I kidding, nothing I choose to do is a productive use of my time. Productivity would be doing dishes or laundry, vacuuming, getting ready for work, or the like. But you know me, I like to complain about effort and spend all my time being a lazy bum. But then I complain about my own laziness and say I should be doing something. It is a god damn vicious circle, but I love it.

On to the post, I suppose then. While the titles of these may be getting more and more obscure for you, I promise they still make sense to me. The true woman (mainly in a man's eyes) is essentially a shopaholic. And thereby when I speak of a true woman's dream AND nightmare I do mean shopping. It is a dream because new things always make us feel better, but it is a nightmare because it is a complete waste of money.
I say this, but then I go out and buy silly little things whenever I can. And then I don't even wear half of my clothes. Sometimes I wish I could go on What Not to Wear and just get $5,000 for a new wardrobe. But then again, I actually dress well (most of the time) so no one would nominate me. :'(  Sadness. C'est la vie.

Shopping. I could probably ramble on for hours about it. My favorite stores, finding good deals, my ability and inability to do it, credit cards, etc. It just wouldn't end. But let's try to fit all of that nonsense into one reasonably sized blog post, shall we?

STORES
As far as the spendier ones go, I'm a fan of Maurices. I also like Deb and DOTS, and my absolutely new favorite TJ Maxx. The reasons for these picks are really simple. Cute clothes out the wazoo. As far as the more reasonable stores - I enjoy Target. There's usually quite a wonderful selection available, especially this time of year. They're bringing out the summer-y things and they are adorable! Designers have had MONTHS to work on them so they're just amazing. **I strongly advise against shopping at Walmart. The clothes may be cheap, but it's because they are of a shit-tay quality**

DEALS
I seem to suck at finding them, but I know someone who is the ultimate savvy shopper. Nikolai Jaux is just the best shopper I've met. She can winterize the ultimate summer outfit and find kick ass boots for $15 when they should be $50. I mean, if you want advice, which I do (and desperately need), talk to her. She is one of my 3 followers so just hit her up. Or I can do it for ya. Whatever floats your boat.

ABILITY/INABILITY
I never have money. And when I do, there's nothing that I want (other than books). Therefore I never buy anything. :'(

CREDIT CARDS
Okay, these bad boys are just what they are. Bad boys. Avoid them for as long as you can. They can get you in trouble very easily.
I know everyone says they'll just use it when they need it and pay it all off right away. I know, I said that too. That was before I had a $500 credit limit and there was shit I wanted to buy. Credit cards are just trouble. They don't make life easier in ANY way.
Credit cards are like drugs.
Just.
Say.
No.

Okay. Don't want to end this on a weird or telling-you-what-to-do note so really trying to fit in another joke here. Running out of time. No ideas coming to mind. Fuck. I suck at being funny. That's it. I give up.

One last little tip. I heard this on a commercial, but it's good advice. Every time you buy something new, you have to get rid of something else. (A good way to avoid clutter as well!)

Post again soon (I HOPE)!!!!!!!!!!

Animation Exaltation

Think back...way back...to when I made a post about my top ten favorite Disney movies (which it was extremely hard to narrow down, BTW). Remember? Good. Now, I'm doing something similar here, but then again it's totally different.

Because, as everyone cool knows, there is a HUGE difference between Disney movies (animated or not) and other animated movies. Therefore, they have earned a post in their own right. This is said post.

So I shall just get down to business here.

THE LAND BEFORE TIME
Okay, well this shit was what my childhood was filled with. I could not get enough of it. I mean, come on. It's fucking dinosaurs! They made so many of them, so just trying to remember which were my absolute faves. The fifth one where they went to that island in the middle of fucking nowhere. Yeah that one where they reunited with Chomper. That was a good one. Another one I loved/love is the one where Littlefoot's grandpa gets sick and they have to go find those glowing yellow flowers and Spike says his first word. Damn that part was heart-wrenching! "Duuckyyyy" awwwwwwwhhh :'( Loved it. Loved all that shit.

ANTZ
This one I always used to get mixed up with A Bug's Life which is also a great one - but Disney so it's not one for this post. Was/is it just me or did those grasshoppers just freak everyone out? I would love to say more about this movie, but I'm drawing a blank on my favorite parts and all that jazz. Moving on.

OVER THE HEDGE
Come on guys. Steve Carell and Bruce Willis AND Wanda Sykes??? Nothing wrong with that cast. Just freaking loved that squirrel! So much energy. And there were some touching moments as well which is to be expected in, like, all animated movies. I will essentially advertise any and all parts of this movie that contain or mention that damned wonderful squirrel.

MADAGASCAR
Where do I even begin? Chris Rock as Marty the optimistic zebra, Ben Stiller as Alex the conceited lion, Jada Pinkett-Smith as Gloria the sassy hippo, and David Schwimmer as Melman the hypochondriac giraffe. What a group of friends. And then you bring in all the lemurs and King Julian?! Some good animated movie making. What were your favorite parts? Because there are too many for me to even begin to name them.

KUNG FU PANDA
Man this was some good kung fu fighting. Jack Black voicing a fat ass panda who idolizes the shit out of the Furious Five of kung fu. Then turns out he's the Dragon Warrior? Mind totally...not blown. If that hadn't happened there would have been no movie. Duh. Anywhoooo so what's up with his dad being a fucking goose? Clearly Po was adopted. I just like how it doesn't get addressed until like the final movie and shit. Just some good stuff going on there. Loved parts making fun of Po being fat. Loved part where he fought that bad guy whose name I cannot recall. Just all good stuff.

SHREK
Now, clearly I could not have made a post about the best animated movies and NOT included Shrek. For some of these animated movies, they really didn't/don't need to go into making a fuck ton of them as a series, but with Shrek it totally worked. I mean, they have a wealth of fairy tale creatures to choose from as bad guys so it didn't NEED to end. Just loved the premise of Shrek. And Donkey is obviously what made like 90% of the humor. CANNOT forget about Donkey. "I'm all alone. There's no one here beside me. My troubles have all gone. (FINISH IT!!)"
okay totally random but that little comment I made ^^ really reminded me of Mortal Kombat FINISH HIM!!!

DESPICABLE ME
CUTEST THING IN THE WORLD!!! "It's so fluffy I'm gonna die!" So much wonderful. I don't even know what to say. Like, there's just too much I could quote. Boogie robots. Dart/Fart gun. The list just goes on and on and on. I have absolutely zero complaints about this movie. I could watch it over and over again. Much like Meet the Robinsons (Disney) which will probably have it's own post because I love it so much.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
So much winning in one movie. Boom. End of description.

HAPPY FEET
Cuteness to the extreme + penguins tap dancing + kick ask singing = this movie. And by the ways I am singularly talking about the first movie here. I haven't seen HF2 yet. But in any case. Robin Williams. Boom. Winning.

RIO
So fabulous. Cute as crap. Plot line is cool shit. They lived in Moose Lake, Minnesota for another one. Like WTF. How awesome is that! Just overall quite great.

I'm not sure there's anything else to say. Obviously, include anything in the comments that I forgot to add. Also give me praise because I deserve it. Uhm. I think that's it. Praise. Praise. And praise. Yeah that about covers it. :)

Post again when I remember. Hopefully it will be within a month this time  :P

I Wish I Was Rich

I'm thinking we better thank our deities* pretty fucking extensively due to the fact that I'm not waiting a month to post again.   *I thought I'd cover all the bases
I know it's a pretty generic title and I could be talking about almost anything in the world since you need money to do anything that qualifies as awesome these days...but I will be discussing something that I'm sure you won't see coming. It's something I've been passionate about for a while, but didn't/don't know how to pursue professionally (or at all really). In any case, I really like to make things look beautiful and I love to rearrange rooms as often as I can.

Have you figured it out yet?
If not, I'll just tell you so I stop rambling. I'm talking about interior design.

Have you ever gotten so bored with the way something was organized that you just said "fuck it" and completely changed it all? That is part of what interior design is. The whole premise of it is essentially organizing something (a single room or an entire house) to show life and personality. For the rich and famous, this is done by hiring a professional interior designer to do it for them. I'm guessing the process for that is having a meeting to decide what the homeowner wants to portray. Then this person GETS PAID to go out and shop with the other people's money to decorate that house.
...Let me just make sure you understand... that this would be the EASIEST job in the world (for nearly every woman on Earth)!
Especially for myself.

For the non-rich and famous, the most simple way to achieve something that could maybe in a million years be perceived as professional would be to move things around or re-purpose things. Changing one thing, even slightly, can make a whole room look different. Another good idea is to color coordinate as much as possible. Nothing is worse than seeing a beige couch, a purple couch, and red curtains in a tan room with brown carpet. Gross!

Another part of interior design is 'accessories' and things of the sort. Throw pillows, paintings, knick knacks, etc. Those are the parts of design that add the homey touches and make a house feel lived in.

When I still lived with my parents, my favorite thing to do was rearrange my room and paint it. The last time it was painted, it was aqua with purple splatter on two walls. The bedspread was predominantly aqua with green and purple stripes.
As you can see, I was really into design from quite a young age.

And now I'm going to school for a fucking business degree.

Such is life.
C'est la vie.

Post again when I remember!

Carstairs or Herondale?

Wow. Well first of all, lets start this with announcing that it's 2013! Holy hell, we didn't all die on the infamous 12/21/12 doomsday! I bet all those believers felt like huge suckers when they woke up on the 22nd. "I built a fallout shelter, and stocked it, and got my family to bug out with me like a week in advance too!" All for nothing you gullible sons-a-bitches! But seriously, there are some hella intense doomsday preppers - but that is a completely different post.

I have officially begun to ramble, so on we go to the actual content of this post. As any well-versed reader would already know from my title, I will be talking about the Infernal Devices series. Yet another wonderful set of books taking place in Cassandra Clare's world of Shadowhunters.

Previously - like 20 posts ago - I talked about her other series, the Mortal Instruments. While this series also focuses on the Shadowhunter world, it is a prequel. Now, does anyone know what that means? I see no hands raising in my bedroom (since I am alone here and not teaching a class full of students), so I will answer it for you -- as any great teacher would. A prequel series is written after the original, yet the setting occurs in a time that takes place before the setting of the original. I hope I have some readers that aren't inbreds and could follow that sentence. I'm sure it was a tough one for all you guys out there. If I didn't get lucky, and there truly are only imbeciles reading this, I will give an example (perhaps from the books I'm talking about?).
City of Bones (Mortal Instruments) takes place in modern day New York, but Clockwork Angel (Infernal Devices) takes place in 1800s era London. See the difference? If not, you're an idiot. :)

This post will not solely be a non-spoiler summary. I have a title I need to adhere to and that means talking about boys in books. :) Oh, how I love to fawn over imaginary people. While I will not be giving an actual synopsis of the series/book, I will be going over characters and their personalities (without giving away anything too important). My reasoning for this is to see if anyone can choose a boy or if they're all just as torn as myself.

Tessa
She is the main character/heroine
She moved from America to London after her aunt died to live with her brother
Instead, he was a no show, so she lived with "The Dark Sisters"
This was how she met Will ---

William Herondale
He is one of the two heroic boys in the book
Shadowhunter
British
Snarky and funny
Self-punishing
Gorgeous
Best friends/parabatai with Jem ---

James Carstairs
Other of the two heroic boys
Shadowhunter
British/Chinese
Slight/petite
Kind
Funny w/o snarkiness of Will
Plays violin
Only one who understands William

Okay. Now that you have their backgrounds (generally), I will give you some filler information to see if I can coax a decision out of you. **evil laugh**

Tessa meets Will first and she is completely offput/intrigued/captivated by him (sound familiar???). He takes her with him to the Institute where shortly after, she meets Jem. While she met Will in a frenzy of adrenaline, she meets Jem in a haze of exhaustion. She got acquainted with Will while running for her life, but she began to know Jem when she heard him playing the violin in his room.
William likes to take risks and is very moody (his mood changes almost as often as Jace's). Jem is more cautious and likes to be a gentleman about expressing his feelings. As readers of the books, you know for a fact that both the boys have feelings for Tessa.
You also find out things about Will that leave you longing to hug him at one moment, while his actions leave you wanting to punch him in the face at the next. The things you learn about Jem make him seem like much less a daredevil than Will, but for good reason.
Tessa immediately is attracted to Will, but his ever-changing attitudes leave her confused at every turn. Tessa also begins to fall for Jem after spending more and more time with him and his intellectual/sweet mind. He is very much a gentleman and slowly expresses his feelings (all of them COMPLETELY true), while Will is a tornado of emotion who sometimes misleads Tessa with his portrayal of said emotions.

I believe I gave you some valuable info (it may be 100% bias coming from my reading/assumptions, but I promise I'm good for it) and therefore I believe you know enough to make a preliminary decision. While I continue to find it nearly impossible to choose, I'm hoping you will feel less attached to the book at this point - only those who haven't read it - and will be able to make a choice.

If you have one of the boys in mind, go ahead and put your choice in the comments along with your reasoning. I only ask because I love you (my reader(s)) and am truly curious.
You may have noticed I said "nearly impossible to choose" earlier...good catch dammit.
You are correct, I do have one of them in mind, but I can't say it's a concrete choice because they are just too close in the race. If you would like to know, I will eventually place it in the comments.

Much love to you all
I'm sorry this ended so abruptly
Post again as soon as I remember!!! :)
